Golf Hats - Keep Your Eye On the Ball

No golfer would ever dream of hitting the links without a hat of some kind on his head to keep the sun out of his eyes when he is lining up for his next shot. Golf hats have changed lot in the history of the game, even today there are several different styles being worn by both professional and amateur players. For many years the golf hat of choice was simply whatever hat you typically wore on a day to day basis, which around the turn of the 20th century was the simple flat cap.

Just Your Everyday Hats

For the last 100 years or so mens hats have been a large part of the golfing world with the exception of the 1960s when for some reason the golf hat went out of fashion for a while and players went hatless. In the early days of the 20th century many players chose a flat cap simply because that was the most common hat of the day and most guys wore them on a daily basis. At golf course in warmer climates the Panama hat was frequently worn because it provided better cooling and more protection for the player's eyes when they went to take a shot.

The main objective of any golf hat is no different than any other sun hats, it is to protect the wearers face and eyes from the glare of the sun. No one wants to have their eyes of face damaged by too much exposure to the harmful effects of the sun's UV rays and as most golfers can spend hours out on the course shooting 18 holes good protection is a must.

Thoroughly Modern Millinery

Today every golfer has his own style of golf hat, ranging from the little visors to the flat cap. Companies like Kangol Hats offers a tremendous range of different hats that can be worn as golf hats or for any other occasion when you feel like wearing a hat. At one point in time the most popular hat for every professional golfer was the simple baseball style cap.

Since many different people tend to play golf in a variety of different climates ranging from desert heat to freezing cold you will see golfers in buckets hats as well as ski hats. Most golfers tend to pick a hat based on the temperature they are playing in.

Different outstanding stars have had their own impact on golf hats, for instance golfing legend Sam Snead wore a straw hat for over six decades while he racked up dozens of wins in each of these decades of play. Then there was Australian golfing great Greg Norman who wore an Australian straw cowboy hat that was custom made for him by one of the Australian hat companies as he shot his way to many championship wins.

The main objective of any golf hat is to keep the sun out of your eyes from the moment you place your ball on the tee until the moment it stops rolling after it land. Whether you choose a baseball cap, a Panama hat or a flat cap as long as it does what it is supposed to do it fits perfectly into the definition of golf hats.
